Myanmar Insurance Association (MIA)
The Myanmar Insurance Association (MIA) was founded on 17 October 2017 with the aim of developing a nascent local insurance industry by bridging between regulator and state-owned and private insurers. The objectives of the MIA are to increase people’s awareness and trust in the insurance industry; to increase insurance penetration and density; to contribute towards the development of the system of market economy and to develop foreign and local investment; to educate concerned individuals and organizations to act in accordance with ethics/standards in doing the insurance business through working committees – namely, the General Insurance Committee, Life Insurance Committee, Reinsurance Committee, Intermediaries Committee, Compliance Committee, Training, Research & Development Committee, and Actuarial Committee. MIA has also established the National Insurance Institute of Myanmar (NIIM) to develop insurance professionals and financial advisors.
National Insurance Institute of Myanmar (NIIM)
The National Insurance Institute of Myanmar (NIIM) objectives are: to create a stream of both regionally and internationally recognized professionals and hence foster the development of Insurance Industry as a whole; to enhance the competencies of Insurance Professionals by equipping them with skills and knowledge required to excel in their careers; to promote the continuous learning and dissemination of knowledge in both insurance and risk management subjects through training programs, seminars, workshops in both lower and upper region of Myanmar; to become a primary source of information and research center for Insurance Industry statistics & data; to promote the professional ethics and conducts in the practice of insurance in Myanmar; and to facilitate social, networking and sport activities in the community to increase awareness and further the public knowledge of insurance.
